We are lucky enough to be situated in the Limousin, an area in central France of gentle countryside with green pastures and beautiful lakes.  The house is 35 miles (56 km) from Limoges, the capital of the region and home to an airport, a chateau, two museums and countless half-timbered houses on narrow streets.  Limoges Airport is served by daily flights from Stansted via Ryanair, with flights from Southampton and Liverpool via Flybe new in 2005.  This makes the Limousin a very accessible and economical destination.  You can find out more about this area using the website www.golimousin.info .

The house is in the sleepy village of Beaumont du Lac.  The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside with an abundance of forests and rivers.

The village of Nedde is around 3 miles (5km) away and offers shops, a supermarket and bars.  4.5 miles (7km) away is the town of Eymoutiers, which has a wider range of facilities such as restaurants, banks and a market.

We are 2 miles (3.5km) from Lac Vassiviere, the largest lake in the region.  The website www.ot-vassiviere.fr gives some more information about the lake.

The lake offers a wide variety of activities, including watersports such as sailing, water skiing and windsurfing.  You can also swim or take a boat trip.

The region offers three golf courses, or you could walk, cycle or simply enjoy the local wildlife.

The area is also ideal for lovers of fishing or horse riding.  The region offers 'grade A' fishing, especially for trout and carp.  Of course it is possible simply to relax and enjoy some peace and tranquillity!
